-In the middle of April Bernard Muldoon saw the biggest calf he had ever seen, when a cow on the family farm delivered. Not long afterwards he saw another one. The first calf weighed more than 72kg, and the second was 75kg or 76kg. A good sized beef calf would normally weigh 60kg, Muldoon explains. “My father’s 70 and he’s never seen anything as big, “said Muldoon. “The heaviest calf the vet ever saw was 62kg.” Both were delivered by caesarean section at the small farm about three miles outside of Ballybofey.
