The Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC) recently celebrated the awarding of one million certificates since the first certificate was awarded in 2001. This is a significant milestone for FETAC and the occasion was marked by a celebration in the Pillar rooms in the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin.
President Mary McAleese was the guest of honour at this celebration to mark the occasion.
Twelve trainees were selected to represent the 1 million trainees who have been awarded certificates. These trainees were presented with special certificates by President Mary McAleese at the celebration ceremony in the Pillar rooms. The mushroom industry was fortunate enough to have had a trainee selected for these awards. Tsvetlina Tonova was awarded a FETAC Level 4 Certificate in Mushroom Harvesting in the summer and her name was one of the 12 selected. Tsvetlina works on Pleroma Mushrooms, formerly Kernans mushroom village in Benburb. She has progressed from picking to supervising and recently completed FETAC Level 6 Skills Training and Assessment module.
There are enormous benefits for pickers and mushroom growers from this training.
The training is delivered in modular form over a period of up to 6 months. Training manuals are available in Lithuanian, Latvian, Russian, Polish, Slovakian and English. CMP are the registered training provider coordinating this training with external verification delivered by Teagasc.
