McGeary's Head European Mushroom Pilgrimage For Irish Growers
Top Irish mushroom group, McGeary's dispatched a group of forty mushroom growers on a trip to see the world leading Dutch Technology and mushroom growing techniques in action in February 2001. The Irish visitors were hosted by AEM in the Masebree region of Holland, where they visited various mushroom farms, including the AEM Mushroom Control headquarters. This trip was the first in a planned series of ten trips which the group have organised, so that all growers can see how the latest AEM system can Increase Irish mushroom yields and quality. David Totten, Managing Director of McGeary Controls was delighted with the response of the growers to what they saw. "This is a testing time for growers and composters, competition within Europe is stiff and the currency situation has made life tough for many businesses." " McGeary's organised this tour to aid our growers through this difficult period, without them there is no us and without us there is no them. By investing in the latest technology growers give themselves an automatic advantage over their competitors, their time is used more efficiently and the quality of their produce is better and more consistent. These factors combined bring enormous benefits to the grower, freeing time for expansion and giving security through a consistent and high quality yield." "Our growers came back really energised and enthusiastic after what they had seen. I think it gave them a great deal of encouragement - we are looking forward now to taking the rest of our growers."
